The media stated that the suspect approached his 24-year-old victim, Un Srey Net on Facebook with the account name Don Richard in August 2022. Don Richard indicated on the victim’s Facebook page in September 2022 that he wanted to give the victim some supplies and money by air from Korea.

The victim then got a call from a man posing as a customs agent at the Phnom Penh Airport, who demanded $10,000 to pay tax on the imported goods.

However, the victim’s family used a remittance service to send $5,000, but after becoming suspicious, they alerted the police, who then detained Mr. Chi.

He was then sent to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for prosecution and punishment for the crime he committed against the Cambodian citizen.
