Born Terry Eugene Bollea but professionally known in the ring as Hulk Hogan was born on August 11th 1953 in Augusta, Georgia in the United States of America. Hulk Hogan was born to Peter Bollea, a construction foreman and a dance teacher, Ruth Bollea. Hulk Hogan had two brother namely; Kenneth Wheeler and Alan Bollea.

Early Life

Hogan and his family relocated to Port Tampa, Florida, when he was one and a half years old. He played pitcher in Little League Baseball as a youngster. Scouts from the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees were interested in him, but his baseball career was cut short by an injury. At the age of 16, he started following professional wrestling. He adored Dusty Rhodes in high school and frequently attended cards at the Tampa Sportatorium. Hogan was also a musician who played fretless bass guitar for ten years in various Florida-based rock bands. Later, he attended the University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College to further his education. He left the University of South Florida after his time in school was disrupted by music performances. Eventually, in 1976, Hogan joined forces with two local musicians to form the band Ruckus. In the Tampa Bay area, the band quickly rose to popularity. Hogan started lifting weights at Hector’s Gym in the Tampa Bay region where he exercised in his free time. Wrestlers from the Florida area competed there, and many of them went to the clubs where Ruckus was playing.

Jack and Gerald Brisco, two brothers who competed as a tag team in Florida, were among those who attended his performances. The Brisco brothers approached Hiro Matsuda, the trainer of wrestlers for Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF), and requested that Matsuda consider Hogan as a potential pupil due to his physical height. The two brothers requested that Hogan attempt wrestling in 1976. Hogan ultimately consented. Hogan claims that he first met Mike Graham when they were in high school and that the two did not get along. However, Mike Graham, the son of CWF promoter Eddie Graham, eventually agreed to let Hogan into the ring. Graham ultimately consented to grant the Brisco Brothers’ request after Hogan left Ruckus and began telling people in the area that he intended to become a wrestler.

Career & Life

Hogan has been considered as one of the biggest draws in the annals of professional wrestling and as a key factor in Vince McMahon’s success in growing his organization. With a 15.2 Nielsen rating and 33 million viewers, Hogan’s match with Andre the Giant on February 5, 1988, set records for wrestling audiences on American television. Cody Rhodes, a fellow wrestler, has frequently stated that Hogan’s match with The Rock at WrestleMania X8 is the best match in wrestling history and that it best represents what professional wrestling is. Bret Hart, a fellow member of the WWE Hall of Fame, has frequently criticized Hogan’s prowess in the ring, saying in 2021 that he “didn’t know a headlock from a headlight” and that he was “extremely limited.” Hart had earlier praised Hogan’s appearance and referred to him as a “hero” to the supporters. Bollea transferred all trademarks referencing himself to his limited liability corporation called “Hogan Holdings Limited” in October 2007. Hulk Hogan, “Hollywood” Hulk Hogan, Hulkster, Hogan Knows Grillin, Hulkamania.com, and Hulkapedia.com are among the trademarks.

Hogan declared in April 2008 that he would grant Gameloft permission to use his trademark to build “Hulkamania Wrestling” on mobile devices. In a press release, Hogan said that the game would be “genuine to his experiences in wrestling” and feature his trademark maneuvers, such as the Strong Clothesline and Doublehand Choke Lift. Since 2010, Hogan has appeared in Rent-A-Center advertisements alongside Troy Aikman. A commercial video featuring Hogan parodying Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” music video and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s GoDaddy.com commercials was published to sell the service. Together with GoDaddy.com, Hulk Hogan made an appearance on a live Hangout On Air on Google Plus on November 21, 2013, where they spoke informally about Hostamania, fans, and business.
