The Kwabre East Constituency National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed confidence in unseating the Kwabre East MP, Francisca Oteng-Mensah, in the 2024 elections.
According to the opposition party, since taking office, the legislator has performed abysmally in the Constituency in all aspects of development, including roads, health, and education, among others.
The NDC believes it can rely on that to garner jaw-dropping votes in all 280 polling stations and defeat the incumbent.
A chairmanship aspirant, Joseph Amankwah, told the media after handing over an office to the party in the constituency that the NDC has developed a number of strategies to win the Kwabre East seat.
He said the party is now determined to select a much stronger candidate to face the young MP in the 2024 elections, as well as unite the party at the grassroots in order to galvanise more supporters.
“I will make certain that we sit with our polling station executives to come up with the best candidate that we can sell and the people will buy because you cannot say you have sold if no one has bought,” he said.
“That will inure to the success of this particular constituency and that we will make certain that we take over this constituency, we will take the MP from the NPP.”
In terms of the chairmanship race, Mr. Amankwa said he has positioned himself as the best candidate, owing to the good intentions and policies he established to benefit the constituency.
He stated that giving the party an office is just the tip of the iceberg, as many greater things are underway if he is given the opportunity to serve as the constituency chairman.
“NDC is not a curious political party, NDC is not a container political party, it is a house political party,” Mr. Amankwah stated.
“People fought for it, we fought for it, and now the party is heading in the wrong direction because we don’t have a place to live. So we have to give them a home, and if we give NDC a home, people on the streets, electorates, and voters will see that NDC has a home and that if they have gone anywhere, they have to come back home, which is why I gave them this particular edifice,” he added.
Mr. Amankwah also promised to launch a polling station support initiative to allocate funds in order to help them with their operations.
He urged party members to maintain unity and cohesion ahead of Saturday’s internal elections.
Ibrahim Musah, a Deputy Communication Officer aspirant, also questioned the NPP’s ability to win the Kwabre East seat again.
He stated that the government’s performance in the constituency has been abysmal and that voters will go all out to help the NDC win in 2024.
