The Kumasi Technical University has commissioned a multipurpose Police post for the Ghana Police Service at Adako Jachie in the Ashanti region.
The facility, which houses a cell, a station and CID offices, and washrooms, is to beef up security at the University’s campus and its adjoining communities.
The Police post was jointly commissioned by Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Akomeah-Apraku, Vice Chancellor of KsTU, Ing. Prof. Nana Owusu Achaw and Adakohene, Nana Osei Bosomprah III.
Speaking at commissioning ceremony, Vice Chancellor of KsTU, Ing. Prof. Nana Owusu Achaw indicated the non-existence of a Police post along Ayigya-Ejisu stretch of the Kumasi-Accra road necessitated the construction of this facility.
He disclosed that the University’s Management envisages a further development of the Police post into a fully functional police station to serve the security needs of the residents.
“As a University, the security and welfare of any member of our staff and students located at our accredited campuses is paramount.
“The need for this post was heightened by the fact that the Ayigya-Ejisu stretch of the Accra-Kumasi road, to the best of my knowledge, has no police station to cater for the security needs of residents on the stretch.
“The several ongoing developments at this campus and with the rather fast developing Adako-Jachie community require full police to adequately cater for the security of residents,” he said.
Ashanti Regional Deputy Police Commander, DCOP Kwasi Akomeah-Apraku, indicated that the increasing population with emerging crimes in communities required a corresponding Police strength for surveillance.
He called on all stakeholders to support the Police in carrying out its mandate and assured the Police post would be utilized efficiently.
“New communities have sprung up, new crimes have emerged, and the population has increased to widen the Police surveillance ratio.
“There’s therefore the need for a corresponding increase in Police strength, infrastructure and logistics.
“In this regard, we need the support and assistance of all stakeholders. Policing today has become a shared responsibility between the police and communities,” he said.
Chief of Adako-Jachie, Nana Osei Bosomprah III, was overwhelmed by the gesture and applauded the University’s Management for the vision and show of generosity.
He appealed for an expansion of facilities at the University premises to accommodate more students to provide job opportunities for residents in the area.
“It is always heartwarming to see such developmental projects in one traditional area.
“We are grateful to the Vice Chancellor and the Management for this Police post. We are very much appreciative.
“We are appealing to the university authorities to continue to expand their operations at the Adako-Jachie campus,” said the chief.
