I will ban Jehovah’s Witnesses from working in Government sector – Akua Donkor. Flagbearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, Madam Akua Donkor has threatened to expel members of the Jehovah’s Witness Church working in government institutions if she is voted as president come December 7.

According to Akua Donkor she will also make sure members of the religious group do not get the chance to hold public office under her watch.

Speaking in an interview with Kofi Adoma, she stated that she sees no reason why a group of people who do not vote to elect government leaders based on religious principle, are allowed to work in the government sector.

“When I become president, no member from the Jehovah’s Witnesses will be allowed to have government work, you don’t want to vote, who should vote for you to go and work at the government office,” she questioned.

Akua Donkor adds that she will ensure the only available sector for Jehovah’s Witnesses to work under her tenure will be the private sector.

She says they will have the opportunity to engage in private activities such as trading and farming but not to work in the government sector.

“All members of the Jehovah’s Witness will go to the market and trade.”

Akua Donkor having formed her Ghana Freedom Party in 2016 was disqualified from contesting in the presidential elections by the Electoral Commission that year.

Four years down the line she is finally set to have a real chance at getting to the presidency after being cleared to contest in the December 2020 elections.

The NPP Chairman for the Lawra Constituency in the Upper West Region, Alhaji Mohammed Donkor is reported to have been attacked by some armed supporters of the party.

Sources say the men, fully armed, attacked the occupants of a campaign vehicle driven by the chairman’s personal driver and confiscated the pickup.

The incident is reported to have occurred on Sunday, November 22 at about 11:30 pm.

Confirming the said incident, Alhaji Mohammed Donkor noted that although persons in his vehicle were attacked, they all escaped unharmed.

“We returned from Brifor Chaa where we went for a campaign. So when we got to Lawra I asked the driver to go and drop some people who travelled from the village to support us in the campaign.

“So it was on his way that Karbo’s boys attacked him with catalyses and took my vehicle away,” he added.

The Lawra NPP Chairman disclosed that the incident has been reported to the Lawra Municipal Police Command for investigation.

Upper West Regional Organiser of the NPP, Mustapher Goveh revealed that party executives have been brought to speed on the alleged attack.

According to him, Alhaji Mohammed Donkor has been accused of using the party’s pickup to campaign against the Lawra MP and Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways, Anthony Abaefaa Karbo.

But some party supporters claim the regional executives of the party have already taken sides in the feud between the Lawra MP and the party chairman.

Rawlings’s death not natural – Bishop Owusu Bempah

Published

Former President Jerry John Rawlings did not die a natural death, Bishop Isaac Owusu Bempeh, head pastor of the Glorious Word Power Ministries, has said.

According to him, Mr Rawlings was killed in the spiritual realm by some prominent politicians in Ghana.

He made the revelation on Net 2 television on Monday, November 23.

“Former President Rawlings’s death was not natural, his death was spiritual,” he said.

“I had a vision in which I saw three different human hearts popping champagne and jubilating while the lifeless body of Mr Rawlings was resting on the table. These hearts were just jubilating and smiling while they were looking at the lifeless body of Mr Rawlings.

“I am a spiritual person and so I understand these things and know who those hearts stand for. Somebody in Ghana is looking for political power and he will never get that power. I will always say it because I am not scared of anybody. Nobody can kill me and so I will always tell the truth.” he added.

Bishop Owusu Bempah added that “I will make more revelations after the elections on December 7.”

Mr Rawlings died on Thursday, November 12 at the Korle Bu Teaching hospital after suffering a short illness.

He was 73 years.

Don’t fight over Rawlings’s death – Otumfuo appeals

Published

on

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu has appealed to the government and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to work together and give late former president Jerry John Rawlings a befitting burial.

Otumfuo has cautioned that all individuals and groups who will be playing roles in the burial of Rawlings must collaborate to give him a befitting farewell.

Speaking when the family of Rawlings, led by Victor Gbeho, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings and Kimathi Rawlings, called on him at the Manhyia Palace to inform him of Rawlings’s death, Otumfuo eulogized the late president and called for unity.

“There shouldn’t be any confusion in his absence, we should all unite and give him a peaceful and befitting burial and funeral rites that he truly deserves after his significant services for the state,” Otumfuo is quoted by the DailyGuide newspaper.

Otumfuo also praised Rawlings for embracing democracy when he decided to hand over power to the Kufuor administration in 2000.

“I remember after the 2000 elections when he (Rawlings) was supposed to exit the political office. He told me to arrange a meeting between him and Kufuor so that we could all arrange for a peaceful transition of power.

“This was a former military man, who has transformed over the years to love and appreciate the democratic system of government. This laudable action that he took helped to ensure peace and unity in the country at the time.”

The NDC, the party founded by Rawlings has accused the NPP government of hijacking the burial and funeral activities of Rawlings.

Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the NDC lamented at a vigil held in honor of Rawlings, that the party has been left in the dark over plans for Rawlings’s funeral.

“The President has refused to recognize that the man belongs to NDC, and he is the founder of NDC. Everything about this funeral so far depicts an attempt by an opponent to hijack the funeral of the founding father of our political party, and we don’t think the funeral of our party founder ought to be organized somewhere, and we get invited,” Asiedu Nketia added.
