Hiplife Legend Kontihene Officially Quits Music

Hiplife Legend Kontihene Officially Quits Music. One of the best Hiplife artistes who sustained the genre during its experimental stage, Kontihene has sadly told Abeiku Santana that he has quit music for good.

He told the ace broadcaster on his Atuu programme which is aired on United Television (UTV) that he feels the time has come for him to bow out and thread on a different path altogether as God will dictate to him.

Born Emmanuel Nana Appiah, Kontihene became the first artiste in the history of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards to be the first newcomer to grab the topmost award with his album Nyankonton in 2001. That album spun the evergreen song Aketesia and other hit songs.

Perhaps the competitiveness of the music scene which has been dominated heavily by Team-based artistes led by Sarkodie and Dancehall artistes like Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy might have influenced his decision to quit music.
